Suryapet the new district, carved out from the erstwhile district Nalgonda comprises of 4 agriculture sub-divisions Suryapet, Tungaturty, Kodad, and Huzurnagar comprising (23) Mandals. The most important river in the district is the Krishna which forms the Southern Boundary. Musi River tributary to Krishna is the next important river in the district.
The soils of the district are mostly consisting of Red chalka soils (43%),Red sandy loams(47%) and the fertile black cotton soils forms only 10 percent. As majority of soils in district are red chalka and sandy loams which has a very low moisture retaining capacity.
The major crops grown in Kharif season are Paddy, Groundnut, Cotton, Redgram, Greengram, Jowar, Bajra, Maize, and Sesamum Chilies and during Rabi are Paddy, Jowar, Maize, Horsegram, Blackgram, Bengalgram, Groundnut, Sunflower, Coriander, Chillies etc.
